Hello Parents/Guardians, Las Vegas City Schools is implementing a Ban on Smart Glasses & Wearable Cameras

At Las Vegas City Schools District, student safety and privacy are our top priorities. To ensure our classrooms remain a secure place for learning, we are implementing a district-wide ban on smart glasses and wearable camera technology (such as Meta Ray-Bans and Snap Spectacles).

Here is what parents need to know:

Protecting Student Privacy: Unlike smartphones, these "stealth" devices can record high-definition video and audio without anyone knowing. This interferes with your child's right to a private learning environment.

Overseas Data Risks: Global investigations have revealed that footage from these devices is often sent to third-party offshore contractors for manual review. This means strangers could potentially view classroom interactions or student faces without the district's or parents' permission.

FERPA Compliance: Because these devices leak data to unauthorized companies, their use on campus is a direct violation of federal student privacy laws (FERPA). You can find the Highlights of the FERPA policies HERE

Prescription Guidelines: We understand some students require prescription lenses. However, smart glasses are not a substitute for standard eyewear. If your child needs glasses, they must be standard, non-electronic frames while on campus.

Enforcement: Starting Immediately, any smart glasses brought to school must be stowed in a locker or backpack. Repeated violations will require a parent to pick up the device from the Principal’s office.

Why now? We want our students to focus on their education without the distraction or fear of being recorded and uploaded to corporate servers for AI training.

For more information, please read the full memo release Here or contact your school principal.

We are thrilled to see Antonio Romero in the spotlight once again! Antonio recently completed the ENLACE Legislative Internship, a prestigious opportunity that took him to the heart of our state's legislative process.

From shadowing representatives to connecting with state leaders, Antonio is gaining the kind of firsthand experience that builds the leaders of tomorrow.

In Antonio’s own words:

"I was honored to be selected for the ENLACE Legislative Internship, where I had the opportunity to shadow Representative Anita Gonzales and connect with Senator Campos. During the program, we also had the privilege of meeting with Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales. Additionally, I attended the 31st Annual Hispano Round Table Dinner, where I met Governor candidates Sam Bregman and Secretary Deb Haaland. These experiences provided me with firsthand insight into the legislative process, leadership, and public service, while helping me strengthen my skills in communication, advocacy, and professional development."
