Current New Mexico Special Education Teaching License

1. Comply with the state approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and uphold and enforce department/unit rules, administrative directives and regulations, Board Policy,and State and Federal regulations.

2. Cooperate in the development and implementation of the District program of instruction.

3. Plan and implement a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and complies with State Department of Education Standards and the Las Vegas City Schools Board of Education goals and objective.

4. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals of the Common Core Standards. In harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, assignments, units and projects, and communicate these objectives to students.

5. Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives to students.

6. Establish and maintain standards of appropriate student behavior and discipline needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and assist in its maintenance on the campus.

7. Evaluate the learning progress of students on a regular basis. Prescribe effective programs or initial referrals to appropriate agency personnel.

8. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

9. Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with the District testing program.

10. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning students’ academic, social, and behavioral progress.

11. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and in and interests of students.

12. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

13. Select and request appropriate books and instructional materials and maintain required-inventory records.

14. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

15. Provide directions and materials for substitute teachers. Plan for and supervise classroom aides, guests, and volunteers.

16. Support faculty and school-related committees and organizations, and sponsorship of student activities.

17. Cooperate with staff and support personnel in assessing and helping students with health, attitude, learning, and behavioral problems.

18. Safeguard the confidentiality of privileged information.

19. Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, district policy, and administrative regulations.

20. Share the responsibility for the supervision of the inventory, care, and proper and safe use of District facilities, equipment, and supplies.

21. Work cooperatively with and maintain professional relationships with district employees and others.

22. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.

23. Attend, schedule and/or conduct staff meetings and participate on committees within area of responsibility.

24. Understand and participate in the development, use, and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and individualized transition plans/504 plans, including making necessary modifications.

25. Perform other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested/assigned by immediate supervisor.
